├OMMAND.COM INCLUDES COMMANDS TO READ AND WRITE ANY ONE SECTOR OF A
DISK INTO OR FROM THE ├-128'S CASSETTE BUFFER. ╘HE ADDRESS OF THIS BUFFER IS
$0B00. ╧NCE SECTORS ARE IN ├-128 RAM THEY MAY BE ALTERED IF DESIRED BY USING
THE ├-128'S BUILT-IN MACHINE LANGUAGE MONITOR (╙EE THE MONITOR COMMAND) AND
RE-WRITTEN TO DISK.
┴ DRIVE FOLLOWED BY A COLON MAY BE USED TO ACCESS A DRIVE OTHER THAN THE
DEFAULT.

DRIVE A.
A>READ B:18,0 ╥EADS TRACK 18 SECTOR 0 INTO THE SAME BUFFER SPACE.
╧NCE THE DESIRED SECTOR HAS BEEN READ, IT MAY BE ALTERED BY USING THE
BUILT-IN MACHINE LANGUAGE MONITOR AND RE-WRITTEN TO DISK, AS A QUICK
ALTERNATIVE TO USING SECTOR EDITING SOFTWARE SUCH AS DISK DOCTOR. ┴LSO, AUTO
BOOT SECTORS MAY BE COPIED (SOMTHING NORMAL FILE COPYING CANNOT DO.) BY USING
THE WRITE COMMAND.
A>WRITE 1,0 ╫RITES THE CONTENTS OF ├-128 RAM FROM ADDRESSES
$0B00-$0C00 TO TRACK 1, SECTOR 0 ON DRIVE A.
(THE AUTO BOOT SECTOR)
A>WRITE B:10,15 ╫RITES THE CONTENTS OF THE SECTOR BUFFER TO DRIVE B
TRACK 10, SECTOR 15.
*** ╬OTE: ╒SE CAUTION WITH THE WRITE COMMAND. ╔F USED CARELESSLY IT CAN
SCRAMBLE THE CONTENTS BEYOND ANY HOPE OF RECOVERY. ╘HIS IS TRUE
OF ALL SECTOR EDITING SOFTWARE. ╞OR THIS REASON, IT IS SUGGESTED
THAT THIS COMMAND NOT BE USED ON AN IRREPLACABLE DISK.
╬OTE2: ╔F YOU USE THE READ AND WRITE COMMANDS TO TRANSFER A BOOT SECTOR
FROM DISK TO DISK, THE BLOCK SHOULD BE ALLOCATED TO PREVENT
SUBSEQUENT DESTRUCTION OF THE BOOT BLOCK BY A FILE WRITING OVER
IT. ╘HIS MAY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USE OF THE @ COMMAND.

╔F YOU HAVE NOT DONE SO YET, RUN THE FILE "REU BOOT MAKER" TO CREATE
A DISK THAT WILL AUTO BOOT ╥┼╒TILITY WHEN THE COMPUTER IS TURNED ON OR
RESET WITH THE RESET BUTTON. ╘HIS STEP IS NOT NECESSARY TO ENJOY ╥┼╒TILITY,
BUT IS RECOMMENDED FOR EASE OF OPERATION. ─╧ ╬╧╘ USE THE BOOT MAKER IF
YOU HAVE NOT DESOLVED YOUR FILES TO A FRESHLY FORMATTED DISK. ╘HE REASON
FOR THIS IS THAT THE BOOT MAKER NEEDS ALL OF TRACK 1 CLEARED. ╒SING THE
BOOT MAKER ON A DISK THAT ALREADY HAD FILES ON IT AND YOU RISK CORRUPTING
SOME OF THEM.
┴FTER BOOTING UP ╥┼╒TILITY AND YOU ARE AT THE OPENING SCREEN, YOU WILL
BE ASKED:
╔NITIALIZE ╥AM ─ISK? N
╘HE DEFAULT FOR THIS PROMPT IS "N". ╔F YOU HAVE JUST TURNED ON YOUR COMPUTER
FROM A COLD START YOU SHOULD ANSWER "Y" TO THIS. ╔F YOU HAVE ALREADY SET UP
THE RAM DISK AND FOR SOME REASON HAD TO RESET THE COMPUTER ANSWER "N" AND
ANYTHING THAT WAS IN THE ╥AM ─ISK WILL BE UNTOUCHED.
┴NSWERING "Y" TO THE ABOVE WILL TAKE YOU TO THE PROMPT:
╠OAD ╞ROM ┬OOT ─ISK? N
╘HE DEFAULT FOR THIS IS ALSO "N". ┴NSWERING "Y" TO THIS QUESTION MEANS THAT
ALL OF THE FILES ON THE BOOT DISK BELOW THE "----------------" WILL BE LOADED
INTO THE ╥┼╒. ╔F YOU HAVE FILES THAT YOU WOULD LIKE PUT INTO THE ╥┼╒ DURING
THIS INITIALIZATION, THEY SHOULD BE BELOW THIS LINE AS ╥┼╒TILITY WILL NOT LOAD
ANYTHING INTO THE ╥┼╒ THAT IS ABOVE IT. ╔F THERE ARE NO FILES ON THE BOOT DISK
THE MESSAGE "╬O ╞ILES ╞OUND ╧N ┬OOT ─ISK" WILL BE DISPLAYED.
┴NSWERING "N" AND THE ╥┼╒ WILL BE CONFIGURED WITHOUT ANY FILES BEING
LOADED FROM THE BOOT DISK. ┘OU WILL HAVE YOUR FULL BLOCK SPACE FREE TO LOAD
FILES FROM OTHER DISKS USING THE COPY COMMAND FROM THE ├OMMAND.COM PROMPT.
┴FTER THIS INITIALIZATION PERIOD IS DONE, ├OMMAND.COM WILL BE INSTALLED
AND YOU WILL BE AT THE "A>" PROMPT. ╘HE FUNCTION KEYS HAVE ALL BEEN REDEFINED
AND WILL RESPOND WHEN PRESSED AS SO:

╧PTION 1 - ─EFINE ╞UNCTION ╦EYS
╫HEN SELECTED, YOU WILL BE SHOWN YOUR CURRENT FUNCTION KEY VALUES. ╔F
THE VALUE ISN'T WHAT YOU WANT JUST TYPE IN THE COMMAND (WITHOUT THE QUOTE
MARKS) AND PRESS RETURN. ╘HE NEXT PROMPT WILL WANT TO KNOW IF YOU WOULD
LIKE A ├/╥, CHR$(13), ADDED TO THE STRING. ┴DDING THE ├/╥ WILL BE LIKE
PRESSING ╥┼╘╒╥╬ WHEN YOU TYPE A COMMAND MANUALY.
┴FTER YOU ANSWER Y/N THE PROGRAM WILL GO ON TO THE NEXT KEY IN LINE.
╔F YOU DON'T WANT TO ALTER A KEY VALUE, JUST PRESS ╥┼╘╒╥╬ AND THE KEY WILL
BE UNCHANGED. ╫HEN THE LAST KEY PROMPT IS ANSWERED, YOU WILL BE SHOWN YOUR
CHANGES AND ASKED TO CONFIRM IF THEY ARE WHAT YOU WANT. ┴NSWERING "N" WILL
TAKE YOU THROUGH THE SETUP SEQUENCE AGAIN. ┴NSWERING "Y" WILL TAKE YOU BACK
TO THE MAIN MENU. ┘OUR NEW FUNCTION KEY CONFIGURATIONS ARE NOW ACTIVE. ┴T
THIS POINT YOU MAY EITHER EXIT THE CONFIG MODULE AND RETURN TO ├OMMAND.COM
OR SAVE THE CONFIGURATIONS FOR FUTURE USE.
╧PTION 2 - ╙AVE ╞UNCTION ╦EY ╙ETUP
╫ITH THIS OPTION THE FUNCTION KEYS THAT ARE IN MEMORY CAN BE SAVED TO
THE DISK TO BE AUTOMATICALLY INSTALLED THE NEXT TIME YOU BOOT ╥┼╒TILITY. ┘OU
WILL BE ASKED IF THE SETUP YOU ARE SAVING IS FOR THE ╥AM ─ISK ╙YSTEM.
┴NSWERING "Y" WILL SAVE IT AS A SYSTEM "═╠" FILE. ┴NSWERING "N" AND YOU WILL
BE ASKED TO ENTER THE FILENAME TO SAVE IT AS. ╘HE DEFAULT IS "KEYFIG.EXE".
┴ FEW THINGS ABOUT THESE FILES YOU SHOULD KNOW:
1. ╘HE "═╠4" FILE IS THE FILE THAT ╥┼╒TILITY LOOKS FOR FIRST SO THIS IS THE
ONE THAT SHOULD BE SETUP WITH THE KEYS YOU WILL BE USING WHILE IN THE
├OMMAND.COM MODE. ╘HE "╦┼┘╞╔╟.┼╪┼" FILE WILL BE LOADED IF THE ML CAN'T
BE FOUND.
2. ╘HE "╦┼┘╞╔╟.┼╪┼" FILE THAT CAME PACKAGED IN THE ╙─┴ IS THE KEY CONFIG
FOR A 128 COLD START. ┘OU CAN CHANGE IT TO WHAT EVER YOU WANT BUT TO MAKE
LIFE WITH ├OMMAND.COM EASIER KEEP THE "╦┼┘╞╔╟.┼╪┼" FILE CONFIGURED IN A
WAY THAT WILL BE USEFUL WHEN YOU RETURN TO BASIC SINCE THE ├OMMAND.COM
KEYS MAY NOT BE.
3. ╫HENEVER YOU REPLACE THE DEFAULT FILENAME WITH ONE OF YOUR OWN, BE SURE
THAT YOU HAVE DELETED ANY TRAILING CHARACTERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN PART OF
THE DEFAULT NAME.
╧PTION 3 - ╠OAD ╞UNCTION ╦EY ╞ILE
╫HEN ├OMMAND.COM IS INSTALLED THIS IS THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN LOAD A NEW SET
OF FUNCTION KEY COMMANDS. ╔F YOU ARE IN BASIC JUST TYPE ┬╠╧┴─"FILENAME".
╔F YOU HAVE BEEN USING ANOTHER PROGRAM AND THEN CAME BACK TO ├OMMAND.COM AND
YOUR "═╠" FUNCTION KEYS ARE GONE THIS IS WHERE YOU GET THEM BACK. ╘O DO THAT,
JUST ANSWER "Y" TO THE FIRST PROMPT. ╔F YOU ARE ABOUT TO RETURN TO BASIC FROM
├OMMAND.COM AND DON'T THINK THAT THE FUNCTION KEYS WILL BE USEFUL, THEN ANSWER
"N" TO THE FIRST PROMPT AND ENTER THE FILENAME TO THE SECOND PROMPT. ╘HE
DEFAULT IS "╦┼┘╞╔╟.┼╪┼".
╧PTION 4 - ┼XIT ├ONFIG ═ODULE
╥ETURNS YOU TO THE ├OMMAND.COM PROMPT OR BASIC; DEPENDING ON WHERE YOU WERE
WHEN THE ╞╦EY ├ONFIG ═ODULE WAS LOADED.

╫HENEVER IT BECOMES NECESSARY TO BREAK OUT OF A PROGRAM USING ╥╒╬/╙╘╧╨/
╥┼╙╘╧╥┼ OR WITH THE RESET BUTTON, BE SURE TO RUN "╥┼╒TILITY" AND ANSWER "N"
TO THE FIRST PROMPT OTHERWISE YOU'LL GET A ERROR ON UNIT:11 WHEN YOU TRY TO
ACCESS THE ╥AM ─ISK.
╬OTE THAT ╥┼╒TILITY SETS UP THE ╥AM ─ISK AS DRIVE 11 AND USES PAGE 14 TO
PLACE THE INTERFACE CODE AT. ═OST ┬┴╙╔├ PROGRAMS WILL BOOT FINE EVEN WITH
├OMMAND.COM INSTALLED BUT YOU MAY HAVE TROUBLE WITH ═╠ AND "IMITATION"
(┬LITZ, ETC.) ═╠ PROGRAMS. ╞OR MORE INFO SEE THE DOCUMENTATION INCLUDED IN
